Our experienced team of chiropractors in Leeds and Manchester are here to diagnose, treat and prevent any musculoskeletal disorders you might be suffering with.
What is chiropractic treatment?
Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession which focusses on the diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of musculoskeletal conditions and associated problems. Although best known for treating the back and neck, chiropractors can treat any problem relating to joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves.
During your chiropractic treatment, your practitioner will take your medical history and symptoms, then perform an examination to diagnose the problem. They will then be able to discuss the range of treatment options available to you. If you’re happy to go ahead with the treatment, they’ll design a thorough treatment plan specifically for your needs.
The aim of chiropractic treatment is not only to relieve pain, but to recondition the body so that you can heal faster and prevent future injury.
How does chiropractic treatment work?
Chiropractors use hands-on techniques to treat injuries. These range from safe, gentle, specific spinal manipulation to free joints that aren’t moving properly, to ice, heat, ultrasound, acupuncture, exercise, lifestyle and posture advice.
What are manipulations?
Manipulations are types of short, sharp twists or thrusts that are thought to help re-align the spine and provide relief from stiffness. Mostly, your chiropractor will perform these with you lying down.
Sometimes, during manipulation, you might hear a clicking or popping sound, this is completely normal and many patients feel it gives them a sense of relief and a feeling of wellbeing. For more information on why your joints click, read our blog post.
