Posture Issues

Posture Treatment

Desk work, commuting, mobile phone usage – our modern lifestyles can wreak havoc on our posture. Our practitioners in Leeds and Manchester are here to help you improve your posture, treat any associated pain, and prevent your posture from causing you further problems in the future.

What Are Posture Issues?

Posture issues manifest in a variety of ways, including stiff or sore shoulders, headache, stiffness in the mid-back, aching in the lower back and stiffness and soreness in the knees. Thankfully, many of these symptoms can be relieved by an understanding of correct posture and taking some simple steps to make your everyday routine posture-friendly.

The slumped posture we assume when working seated at a desk is called sterna-symphyseal posture and can have long-lasting detrimental effects on our musculoskeletal system. There are some practical things you can do to help prevent posture issues while sitting at a desk, including:

  • Using a laptop stand
  • Adjusting monitor height
  • Take regular breaks from your desk
  • Investing in an ergonomic chair
  • Using a headset if you spend a lot of time on the phone

Other Causes

But it’s not just desk work that causes posture issues; using handheld devices, driving, commuting and even genetics can also affect our posture.

An assessment with one of our specialists will help get to the bottom of your symptoms and start you on the road to fixing your posture.

How Do We Treat Posture Issues?

Our first step in treating posture issues is a full assessment, including a run through your symptoms and your medical history. From here our practitioners will be able to get to the root of the problem.

Depending on your individual symptoms, treatment will include manipulation of joints to release tension, stretching and massage, along with some exercises for you to do at home. Your practitioner will also suggest ways that you can improve your lifestyle to help you achieve correct posture.

If you are suffering with work-related posture issues, you should always speak to your employers to assess your workstation and make necessary changes to ensure your comfort and health.
