From first appointment to ongoing care…
1. FREE consultation – in order to treat you effectively, your specialist will need to carry out an assessment. This process involves a chat with one of our Patient Advisors, including a small amount of paperwork, and an introduction to your practitioner. You’ll then spend around 15-20 minutes with your practitioner, in which time they’ll take a full case history in regards to your current complaint, some past medical history, and then the suggested next steps.
2. Assessment & treatment – if treatment is deemed appropriate, and you are booked with a chiropractor, osteopath or acupuncturist, you’ll come back for an assessment and treatment. Your practitioner will spend around 40 minutes carrying out clinical and orthopaedic tests, followed by a diagnosis and treatment.
First they’lll check your reflexes, blood pressure and posture in order to locate the tissue or structure that could be causing you pain. To see how your body is moving, you may be asked to take off some layers of clothing. We provide gowns for you to wear, but if you don’t feel comfortable, feel free to bring some loose comfortable clothing or gym-wear.
If your practitioner thinks it necessary, you may be referred on for blood tests or imaging.
Treatments vary from patient to patient, but may include soft tissue massage (in which a cream or oil may be applied), joint articulation, stretching and joint manipulation. Occasionally, when joints are moved you may hear a click – this is completely normal and you can find out more about it in this blog post.
We want you to be as comfortable as possible so feel free to ask questions around your diagnosis and treatment.
We welcome chaperones at all appointments and encourage them for patients under 16 years of age.
3. Your tailored programme – very few issues are resolved in just one treatment, so we offer ongoing care to ensure the benefits of your treatment are long-lasting. Your practitioner will recommend further appointments depending on the diagnosis and levels of pain, and will often suggest ways to improve your condition in the meantime.
4. Ongoing care – Our programme of ongoing care includes follow-up treatments, lifestyle advice, and methods to avoid relapses. This could be a combination of exercises, stretches, minor lifestyle adjustments or improving workplace ergonomics.
